It’s Musk Vs Trump Round 2 As Billionaire Vows to Primary Supporters of the Big, Beautiful Bill

Elon Musk and President Trump are in the ring, and Round Two could shake Washington, DC to its core. The latest edition of the Musk vs Trump feud exploded Monday as the United States Senate debated over the President’s controversial “Big Beautiful Bill.” Musk issued his sharpest political threat by vowing to support challengers in every Republican primary against lawmakers who vote for the legislation. He specifically targeted those who campaigned on cutting government spending but now back what could become the largest debt increase in U.S. history.
The Big Beautiful Bill, a centerpiece of Trump’s second-term agenda, includes sweeping tax cuts, immigration crackdowns, energy policies, and entitlement reforms. But critics from both parties argue it adds nearly $5 trillion in new spending over the next decade, even after accounting for offsets and growth projections.
What Makes Primaries a Serious Threat
Musk’s pledge to fund primary challengers is no idle threat. In U.S. politics, a primary is an early-stage nomination within a party to select its official candidate for the general election. For incumbents, especially those ensconced in safe Republican districts, losing a primary often means losing their seat.
Previously, Musk actively spent over $275 million on supporting GOP campaigns. His political action committee, America PAC, remains flush with cash and ready to back candidates aligned with his agenda. Many sitting lawmakers fear a Musk-backed challenger, particularly after their own voters hear his accusations of hypocrisy.
Musk also revived this threat to launch a new political party if the bill passes. He accused the Republican-Democrat establishment of forming a “Porky Pig Party” that is more concerned with backroom deals than fiscal sanity.
Trump’s Counterattack and Threat of Unleashing DOGE on Musk
Of course, the Musk vs Trump war isn’t one-sided when it comes to firepower. Shortly after Musk’s X outbursts, President Donald Trump responded swiftly via his Truth Social platform to ridicule him and hint at financial retaliation. The President suggested the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, review every contract between Musk’s companies and the federal government. “Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back to South Africa,” Trump declared. “No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE.” The irony is that DOGE was originally Musk’s initiative to root out wasteful spending. Now, Trump is threatening to turn the same department against the billionaire himself.
Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, have several live government contracts worth billions. His satellite venture, Starlink, is also deeply intertwined with several federal agencies’ network operations. Cutting those ties would damage these firms severely and force them to find new revenue streams. With Musk’s global reputation in tatters, finding new markets might be more difficult than ever. Some analysts, however, believe that the legal process in canceling these contracts could be slow and complex.
America’s Deep Divisions Over the Big Beautiful Bill
The bill’s supporters insist it “unleashes economic growth” by extending Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, slashing taxes on tips and overtime pay, and strengthening border security. But independent estimates, including a Congressional Budget Office report, say it will increase the deficit by at least $3 trillion. Polls show Americans remain deeply divided. Fox News found 59% of voters oppose the bill, with even some Republican lawmakers expressing concern over its spending levels. Democrats have blasted cuts to Medicaid and food assistance, while fiscal hawks warn the bill’s math does not add up.
Despite his past alignment with Trump on immigration and deregulation, Elon Musk called the legislation “insane and destructive.” He claims it props up dying industries while undermining innovation. The Musk vs Trump feud, fueled by political ambition and billions in government dollars, is reshaping the landscape ahead of the 2026 midterms. Both men show no signs of backing down.
