Obama Contradicts Biden: Open Borders Are Unsustainable

Former President Barack Obama didn’t agree with President Joe Biden on maintaining open borders. Obama said that maintaining open borders especially in the south is an unsustainable solution.

Instead, he said that Biden should start getting serious about dealing with migrants in a systematic way.

Obama Disagrees with Biden’s Open Borders Policy

During an ABC News interview last Tuesday, Obama took the mic to disagree with the current White House policies involving unprecedented numbers of migrant crossings. Biden seems to be having trouble managing the US’s southern border.

Meanwhile, many experts say that the ongoing migrant crisis is a direct result of Biden’s misguided policies on migrants. In addition, Biden’s rhetoric emboldens many migrants to cross the border into the US. 

During his interview with “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts, Obama said there is plenty of work to do. He said that the images of 15,000 illegal Haitians trapped under a bridge are a “painful reminder” that the US doesn’t have things in control yet. 

Time To Get Serious

Obama also praised Biden for his big-heartedness. However, he said that it’s time to “get serious about dealing with this problem in a systemic way”. The former President said it’s time to stop going for “one-offs where we’re constantly reacting to emergencies.”

“Immigration is tough. It always has been because, on the one hand, I think we are naturally people that want to help others. And we see tragedy and hardship and families that are desperately trying to get here so that their kids are safe, and they’re in some cases fleeing violence or catastrophe,” Obama added.

“At the same time, we’re a nation-state. We have borders. The idea that we can just have open borders is something that … as a practical matter, is unsustainable,” he added. 

Migrant Crisis Is Full-Blown, Yet Biden Insists On Open Borders

During Biden’s tenure, illegal migrants are coming into US borders in record numbers. According to the Department of Homeland Security, agents arrested more than 200,000 migrants trying to cross the border in the last two months. 

However, when White House media asked Press Secretary Jen Psaki if Biden agreed with Obama’s comments, Psaki got creative. She said that the US currently does not have open borders. So it means that the President agrees. 

Biden Should Heed Obama’s Comments

In a post-mortem discussion of Obama’s comments, Fox News “The Five ” panelist Jesse Watters said Biden should heed Obama's remarks. His comments are a “public warning [for] Joe Biden that this is a huge problem”.

Watters added that Obama is unquestionably a smart guy as he won reelection. “He knows an open border can wound a sitting president,” Watters remarked. 

In addition, Watters noted that Obama does know firsthand how dangerous the border crisis is when mixed with a volatile local economy. Having border problems of this magnitude along with inflation and high fuel prices can lead to disastrous results.

The inability to turn this around can cost a sitting president his party’s majority in Congress. However, Watters doubted that Biden would listen. “Is Joe Biden going to listen? Obviously not,” Watters opined.
