Nancy Pelosi: Trump’s Actions ‘Makes Nixon’s Watergate Look Small’

In a Thursday press conference on the impeachment inquiry, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said President Trump's actions make former President Richard Nixon's Watergate crimes look “small” by comparison. According to Pelosi, Trump’s pressure on Ukraine to investigate a potential opponent in the 2020 election “makes what Nixon did look almost small.”

Pelosi referred to Nixon’s resignation after the Watergate scandal. It involved “a break-in at Democratic Party headquarters and the subsequent cover-up.” Nixon resigned in 1974 after the House Judiciary Committee approved impeachment articles. However, he resigned before the full House voted on the issue.

Pelosi added that what Trump did was so much worse than what Nixon did, and said that Nixon cared about the country enough “to recognize that this could not continue.”
