Vice President Mike Pence criticized Democratic nominee Joe Biden for being a “cheerleader for Communist China” during Wednesday night’s vice-presidential debate. He added that the Trump administration will “hold China accountable” for the novel coronavirus.

“China and the World Health Organization did not play straight with the American people,” Pence said. “They did not let our personnel into China … until the middle of February.”

“But China has been taking advantage of the United States for decades, in the wake of Biden cheerleading for China,” he added.

Pence also said that the president “has stood up to China.” “We want to improve the relationship, but we’re going to hold China accountable for what they did to Americans with the coronavirus,” he said.

Nikkei Asia reported that Harris, on the other hand, said, “You lost that trade war” – in reference to President Trump’s trade negotiations with China. “Because of a so-called trade war with China, America lost 300,000 manufacturing jobs. Farmers have experienced bankruptcy because of it. We are in a manufacturing recession because of it,” she added.

“Lost the trade war with China? Joe Biden never fought it,” Pence fired back. “Joe Biden has been a cheerleader for communist China over the last several decades.”

According to Nikkei Asia, the two nominees were not informed of the topics beforehand, unlike the presidential debate on September 29th.
