Pence to Announce Joining 2024 Presidential Race Next Week
Former Vice President Mike Pence, a Republican, is set to announce that he will run for president in 2024. The announcement will happen during a rally-style event taking place in Des Moines, Iowa next Wednesday, as per someone familiar with the former VP’s plans.
A source told Breitbart News about Pence’s upcoming announcement. He will compete against them as well as other Republicans like Sen. Tim Scott, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy (R-SC). Chris Christie, a former governor of New Jersey, is also anticipated to run next week.
According to recent polling, Trump is by far the front-runner, with DeSantis in a distant second. Pence, Scott, Haley, and Ramaswamy are all trailing by mid-single digits.
However, the entry of candidates like Scott, Pence, and Christie into the race before and right after DeSantis's entrance into the race suggests a lack of confidence in the Florida governor's ability to defeat Trump. The first poll conducted since DeSantis's announcement also reveals that he did not benefit from it. Scott refuted the idea that the campaign was a “two-man contest” between Trump and DeSantis during an interview with Breitbart News during his announcement event in North Charleston, South Carolina. It would be further evidence that most Republicans do not think in those terms if Pence entered the race the following week.
Pence stated that he was “weeks, not months” away from making a decision regarding 2024 in a recent mid-April interview with Breitbart News in his home state of Indiana at the National Rifle Association's (NRA) annual meeting in Indianapolis. It has come to pass since that interview was next Wednesday, which is less than eight weeks away.
The former Vice President said: “Look, I think this country is in a lot of trouble… When I think about the way the Lord has blessed my family to be a leader in the Congress, to be a governor of a successful state, to be a Vice President in a consequential conservative administration, my wife and I are continuing to reflect and pray about what our role might be, but I expect we’ll have a clearer idea and you’ll have a clearer idea in weeks, not months.”
