A South Philadelphia gun store owner shot and killed a man whom he claims was looting his business.

According to Greg Isabella, owner of Firing Line Inc, he saw a group of looters on his surveillance video. The looters had broken a padlock on his gate with bolt cutters.

“He was inside of his gun shop overnight because someone had attempted to break in over the past few days,” said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

“One of the males pointed a gun at the owner,” Small narrated. “That's when the owner of the gun shop, who was in possession of one of his guns, fired several shots,” he added. He also mentioned that the store owner struck the guy “at least one time in the head,” Small added.

Isabella fatally shot the “gun-wielding robber,” as described by Fox News, with an AR-15.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that medics pronounced the man dead at the scene, and the other individuals ran away.

Another man with a gunshot wound to the shoulder showed up to Jefferson Hospital in Center City a short time later, as reported by CBS Philadelphia. “Investigators are working to determine if he was involved in the burglary,” the report said.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Jim Kenney and Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw released a statement. They said that they respect the rights of business owners to protect their property. However, were also disturbed to hear about the incident.

“We do not endorse or condone any form of vigilante justice or taking the law into one’s own hands,” Outlaw said.

Kenney said he was “deeply troubled” by the death.
