During an interview that tired on Sunday Night, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) stated that Dr. Anthony Fauci should be fired following the revelation last week confirming that the National Institutes of Health provided funds for gain-of-function research on the coronavirus.

Axios interviewed the senator, during which Paul mentioned a letter from the NIH addressed to Ranking Member Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.). The letter confessed to “limited experiment” conducted, aiming to test if the spike proteins from coronaviruses naturally occurring in bats in China have the capability of binding to humans’ ACE2 receptors in a mouse model. Critics say this contradicts what Fauci has always claimed.

Paul said Fauci “should be fired” due to his “lack of judgment if nothing else.”

The senator then stated it is likely that Fauci, who heads the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, will never confess that he lied.

Paul said that the doctor will continue “to disassemble and try to work around the truth and massage the truth.”

Axios’ interviewer Mike Alen told the senator that President Joe Biden would likely not fire Fauci. To this, Paul said that he would be satisfied with having a prove into the gain-of-function study that he’s been pushing for months.

On Sunday, Fauci revealed to ABC News’ “This Week” that he doesn’t agree with Rand Paul.

Fauci said neither he nor NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins lied or misled people about their actions. He added that, from a molecular standpoint, it is impossible for the viruses worked on to become the virus causing COVID-19.
