When DirectTV announced that it will drop the One America News Network from its lineup, Senator Rand Paul knew how to react. The Kentucky Senator promptly canceled his DirecTV subscription. He also called for a boycott of the cable provider.

DirecTV not renewing its contract with OAN

Earlier this month, DirecTV confirmed that it won’t renew its current contract with the One America News Network, which is expiring this April.

The conservative channel is known for being a major supporter of former President Donald Trump. A spokesperson for the cable network company confirmed the plan to drop OAN from its ranks.

“We informed Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires,” he said.

DirecTV’s decision may have something to do with the liberal media’s constant cries to drop the network for spreading misinformation.

Critics of the network include 16 civil rights, human rights, and media justice organizations. They all called on TV distributors to drop the network for spreading disinformation.

Senator Rand Paul Reacts By Canceling His DirecTV Subscription

Hearing the news, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul took to Twitter to announce he’s canceling his DirectTV subscription.

He also suggested that other right-wingers should do the same. “I just canceled my home Direct TV. Why to give money to people who hate us?,” Sen. Rand Paul tweeted.

former President Donald Trump also jumped into the fight. He mourned the loss of OAN’s accessibility across America. Trump said that DirecTV targeted OAN’s removal because of politics.

He then urged his supporters to reconsider using AT&T’s services in the future.  “Maybe what we should do is not use AT&T,” he said.

Other Conservative Voices Decry the Loss of OAN

Meanwhile, former Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs also decried the decision. He attributes the loss of OAN to an overzealous liberal media network. “Corporate Media is crushing what little dissent remains,” Dobbs tweeted.

In addition, author Nick Adams noted that OAN’s loss is further proof that cancel culture is very much active. “Cancel culture is destroying our country!” Adams tweeted. “DIRECTV must be held accountable for canceling OAN! BOYCOTT AT&T and DIRECTV!”

OAN Is Dead Without DirecTV

However, the decision has serious implications for the One America News Network. During a 2020 court proceeding, OAN’s founder testified that the inspiration for the conservative network came from AT&T executives themselves.

CEO Robert Herring Sr said during an earlier deposition that “they told us they wanted a conservative network”. At the time, only Fox News represented the right-wing, while seven networks supported the left. “When they said that, I jumped to it and built one,” Herring said.

In addition, the conservative channel receives nearly all its revenue from DirecTV. By not renewing, DirecTV can literally cripple the right-wing network and reduce its reach across America.

In fact, a network lawyer once told the court during a 2020 proceeding of how much OAN depends on DirecTV.  He noted at the time that if DirecTV drops OAN/Herring Networks, “the company would go out of business tomorrow.”
