Report Shows That Pools Are Third Most Google Searched Commodity

As COVID-19 has caused limited access to beaches and neighborhood pools, consumers seem to resort to backyard pools.

“With people being urged to stay at home for much of the summer — meaning potentially hot summer days with limited or no access to ocean beaches, town swimming holes or neighborhood pools — more and more consumers want to buy their own backyard pool,” the Burlington Free Press said in a report.

According to the report, consumer Google search traffic also shows pools are now the third most-searched-for commodity. The traffic went up by 200% from last month. Sprinkler accessories are at number two and inflatable water slides are at number six.

“Although it is too early in the year to tell, anecdotally every single member of our association are as busy as they thought they would be, if not busier,” said Dominick Mondi, executive director of the Northeast Spa & Pool Association. He added that there is an increase in pool renovations.

“Investing in your pool can provide a substitute for recreation and day trip vacations,” Mondi said. He also said, “swimming is a great form of physical fitness, especially with gyms and other options currently not available.”

“People want a controlled environment to enjoy this summer and to breathe a backyard oasis for their family and friends,” said Sabeena Hickman, chief executive officer for the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance.
