Republicans Elect Elise Stefanik To GOP Leadership After Cheney Got The Boot
Republican members of the House of Representatives voted for Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) to become the new GOP Conference Chair, the third top leading position among House Republicans. This follows the party voting to remove Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) from the said position earlier this week.
Stefanik won by a 134-46 vote over Texas Rep. Chip Roy after former President Donald Trump endorsed her.
Following her win, Stefanik released a statement, saying that she is “truly honored and humbled” to have earned the support of her fellow representatives. She then said that House Republicans stay united in their focus to fight the “Socialist Democrat” agenda of the current administration and of Nancy Pelosi. Stefanik then mentioned that the nation is currently facing many different crises – economic, immigration, energy, and security. She alleged that these come due to the far-left radical policies the administration is implementing.
She then added that House Republicans will continue to push policies tackling the economy and employment, the reopening of schools, energy independence, border security, national security, and the protection of the U.S. Constitution.
During a press conference after the vote, Stefanik contrasted the message Cheney put forth previously. Stefanik said that the party wants to work with Trump. Meanwhile, Cheney believes that the former president shouldn’t have a role in the party.
House Republicans removed Cheney from her position earlier this week due to her obsession with Trump instead of focusing on how to deal with President Joe Biden’s far-left policies and agenda.
