Respected LAPD Officer Writes Letter to Lebron James for a Meeting After his Anti-Cop Rethoric

A well-known officer from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) wrote a letter addressed to NBA star LeBron James, asking the latter for a meeting to educate him on policing.

LAPD Officer Deon Joseph wrote the letter after the NBA star put a target on the back of a police officer last week.

The officer James targeted had shot and killed an African-American girl who was trying to stab another girl. James responded to the incident less than 24 hours after it took place and bodycam footage had rolled out. He did so by posting a photo of the officer, adding “YOU’RE NEXT. #ACCOUNTABILITY,” as a caption. The caption also had an hourglass emoji, likely used to signify that time may soon run out.

Joseph, who has become popular due to his outreach efforts on SkidRow, an area known for widespread homelessness wrote the open letter addressed to James. He posted it last week on his public Facebook profile. The letter said:

Last week, in Ohio, James’ home state, a bar announced that it would no longer play NBA games until the player is “expelled” from the league. James responded by mocking the said establishment on Twitter, where he has 50 million followers.
