Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran, used a rented Ford truck to bypass police barricades and drive into a packed crowd. Jabbar’s social media posts revealed his allegiance to the Islamic State group, describing his desire to kill. His vehicle contained improvised explosive devices (IEDs), firearms, and an ISIS flag.

The futuristic vehicle, also rented via Turo, carried fireworks, gas tanks, and camping fuel wired to a remote detonation system. Surveillance footage revealed the driver circling the hotel before parking and triggering the explosion.

Unlike New Orleans, the Las Vegas incident resulted in fewer casualties. The Cybertruck’s design directed the blast upward, limiting damage to nearby structures. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police confirmed the driver died in the explosion, and seven bystanders sustained minor injuries.

Authorities have yet to confirm if the two truck attacks are related, but the timing and shared rental platform have raised alarms. FBI Special Agent Jeremy Schwartz stated, “We’re working to determine whether this was an act of terrorism or a tragic coincidence.”
