Trump Cosigns Florida Governor DeSantis: ‘Would be Considered’ as 2024 Running Mate
On Thursday, former President Donald Trump said that he is “100%” contemplating running in 2024. When he does, Trump mentioned that he would consider tapping Florida Governor Ron Desantis as his running mate.
Trump Considers Running in 2024, Plans to Tap DeSantis as Running Mate
During an interview on Fox’s “Mornings with Maria,” on Thursday, the former president mentioned that he was thinking about running again for president in 2024. He revealed this the morning after President Joe Biden delivered an address to Congress.
When Trump revealed this, he described DeSantis as his friend and that he is “a great guy.”
Additionally, Trump said DeSantis has done a “great job” as the governor of Florida.
Apart from these, Trump also mentioned his platform for his potential run in 2024. He stated that it would include the protection of the Second Amendment, focusing on border and energy industry issues, as well as tax increases.
Former President Slams Biden Administration for Immigration Issues
During the interview, the former president also slammed Biden for not mentioning the border crisis in his speech. Trump told Maria Bartiromo, the host of the show, that Biden failed to mention the border when asked what “struck” him about the president’s speech last Wednesday night.
Trump also pointed out the surge of people into the country at a rate that hasn’t been seen before. He also pointed out that people coming to the U.S. include criminals and that the current administration fails to do something about it.
The former president says the situation is “out of control” and that, if it continues, it may “destroy our country.”A White House spokesperson did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
Trump Blames Biden Policies for Border Crisis
Since he took office, Biden has scrapped several Trump-era policies on immigration. These include the border wall construction and the policy that had asylum seekers stay in Mexico while waiting for the hearing of their cases.
Biden’s decisions led to a record surge of immigrants going into the country, which includes a surge in unaccompanied minors. The influx of people caused a strain in the capacity immigration facilities can handle in recent weeks.
In the interview, Trump insisted that they need to finish the wall. He also said his administration would have seen the completion of the wall if Congress and Democrats didn’t sue him “every single moment.”
Apart from immigration issues, the former president also criticized Biden’s policies tackling energy. Trump noted that, because of his actions, the country will stop being energy-independent in a few months.
Issues on Energy Highlighted
In particular, Trump focused his criticism on Biden’s energy actions, such as putting a stop to the Keystone XL oil pipeline project. Regarding this project, a State Department study indicated that 26,100 indirect and direct jobs would have stemmed from the said project.
To answer this issue, Biden’s climate czar, John Kerry, proposed a new vision of a green economy for the country. According to Yahoo News, in his suggestion, Kerry said the laid-off workers can also be the same ones who could work on the manufacturing of solar panels.
Apart from stopping the project, the president also suspended issuing oil and gas permits on state-owned lands and waters. This came in a series of executive orders that aimed to combat climate change.
