Trump Will Cut All Ties To Communist Cuba

• Trump will need to see “movement in the right direction” from the Cuban regime in regards to the rights of the Cuban people, Priebus said Sunday.
• But Trump, throughout his presidential campaign, has threatened to repeal Obama’s newfound diplomatic relations with Cuba, should he win the White House, citing the need for better deals.

President-elect Donald Trump is “absolutely” willing to reverse President Barack Obama’s diplomatic relationship with Cuba, according to Trump chief of staff Reince Priebus.

If Cuba wants to maintain the positive diplomatic relationship with the U.S. established by Obama in recent years, then Trump will need to see “movement in the right direction” from the Cuban regime in regards to the rights of the Cuban people, Priebus said Sunday on “Fox News Sunday.”

“Trump has been pretty clear,” Priebus said. “We’ve got to have a better deal. We’re not going to have a unilateral deal coming from Cuba back to the United States without some changes in their government.”

“Repression, open markets, freedom of religion, political prisoners — these things need to change in order to have open and free relationships,” he went on to explain. “There’s going to have to be some movement from Cuba in order to have a relationship with the United States.”

Under Obama’s watch, U.S.-Cuban relations have been strengthened, much to the chagrin of Cuban-Americans and Cuban-American politicians like Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Marco Rubio (Fla.).

Over the past eight years, economic and travel sanctions have been lifted, diplomatic ties have been restored, the State Department has removed Cuba from their list of state sponsors of terrorism and each country has re-opened their embassies in one another.

But Trump, throughout his presidential campaign, has threatened to repeal Obama’s newfound diplomatic relations with Cuba, should he win the White House, citing the need for better deals.

“All of the concessions that Barack Obama has granted the Castro regime were done with executive order, which means the next president can reverse them. And that is what I will do unless the Castro regime meets our demands,” Trump said earlier this year while on the campaign trail, according to Newsmax.

And it’s clear Trump isn’t wavering on his promises. On Saturday, the president-elect celebrated the death of longtime Cuban dictator Fidel Castro in a four word tweet. In addition, all of Trump’s surrogates, including Priebus, continue to signal that Trump plans to be tough on Cuba until the island-nation begins to rescind it’s tight grip on its people.
