Is Trump’s Ship Sinking? Has he been involved with Russia?

Michael Wolff fired another salvo in the battle to investigate possible collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election . The collusion in thought to extend to President Donald Trump himself.

Wolff said that the investigation into the president and his family’s financial activities could show illegal actions. They could be criminally investigated.

Wolff said during an interview with Squawk Box that “People don’t think in the White House — don’t think that he colluded with Russia. … They do think that if the investigation goes near his finances, he’s sunk. Everybody, again, to a man.”

Does Trump have financial ties to Russia?

I  am frightened to think that those in the highest echelons of power of our executive branch may not be thinking. I am more frightened that that collusion with the former Soviet Union may have actually occurred.

Trump and his administration have fought tooth and nail against the investigation into his possible ties to Russia. However, public records show that many of his larger real estate deals were financed by Russian banks.

Wolff said that Trump’s staff do not believe he colluded with Russia. His administration is concerned that special counsel Robert Mueller will look into Trump’s business dealings and investments.  Some questions could be answered by examining the president’s tax returns. President Trump has never provided his tax returns.  He promised to numerous times during his campaign.

I wonder why a sitting president would be so worried about investigations into his business dealings.  Most presidents have made their financial dealings transparent before taking office in order to avoid this type of scrutiny.

Why is Trump avoiding Mueller and the Russia Investigation?

The president’s outside the legal team are pursuing options and strategies to limit president’s availability for face-to-face interviews.  The tactics are to seek clarifications on when and where the president can be interviewed and for how long. Trump’s lawyers began this process shortly after former campaign manager Paul Manafort was indicted for money laundering.

Trump’s private legal team is probably attempting to avoid the interview entirely considering what many suspect Mueller is trying to find out. Specifically, Mueller is interested in knowing if the president knew about his campaign’s contacts with Russia and Russian officials.

Trump denied any relationship between his campaign and Russia. He is quoted as saying “I have nothing to do with Russia. To the best of my knowledge no person that I deal with does.”

Whether Trump's team will prove to be innocent should come to light when members of his staff and leadership team are under oath.  Court documents are revealing.  They show that President Trump knew that George Papadopoulos, one of his foreign policy aids, had connections to Russian leader Vladimir Putin.  Further, Papadopoulos made an offer to arrange a meeting between the two world leaders.  Where there is smoke is there is fire?

Is Wolff’s book true?

While many are criticizing Wolff’s book the journalist says, “People who are denying they spoke to me, I do have them on tape.”

Will Trump again deflect attention?

If President Trump follows true to his usual pattern of deflecting attention he will again call for an investigation into the emails former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton sent using a private email server while Secretary of State.  This will probably be followed up by emails from Trump’s staff on the private email servers many on his staff use.

When it comes to financial and political ties to Russia, the Trump ship is sinking.  The ship is like a Viking funeral pyre and watching it burn is almost painful to watch.
