Social media website Twitter announced that the permanent ban of former President Donald Trump will remain, even if he runs for office in 2024.

Twitter CFO Ned Segal confirmed on Wednesday that having Trump on the site was not an option. The CFO told CNBC that they would not allow the former president to use their platform again. The ban still applies, even if he wanted to run for office in the next election.

Twitter permanently banned Trump on Jan. 8, two weeks after the Capitol riots. The social media platform cited the “risk of further incitement of violence” for his ban. This also meant that he did not have the means to use the platform while still serving as President for two weeks.

In its announcement of Trump’s ban, Twitter stated that no one is exempted from its rules. It added that it will remain transparent regarding its terms of use, policies, and enforcement.

Project Veritas Also Gets Permanent Twitter Ban

Apart from Trump, the social media website also reportedly banned accounts connected to the “Qanon movement,” as per CNBC.

As per the report, Twitter also permanently banned Project Veritas for sharing “private information” without permission.

James O’Keefe, the founder of Project Veritas, revealed that the video showing Facebook’s VP of Integrity, Guy Rosen, being questioned about censorship outside his home, was flagged as the rule-violating post. He then added that the post did not violate any privacy policy and that Project Veritas will appeal this decision.

Apart from the permanent ban of Project Veritas' page, Twitter has also temporarily locked O’Keefe’s personal account for allegedly violating the same policy.

However, the social media platform revealed that they mistakenly told Project Veritas that it can do something to restore its account. Twitter also confirmed that the ban on the group is final.
