Uber will be launching a grocery service this month.

Fox Business reported that Uber has partnered with Cornershop, a Chilean online grocery store provider.

“Our vision is of being a one-stop-shop for all of our customers on food occasions,” said Raj Beri, Uber's global head of grocery. “We want to make sure we're able to get groceries to customers as conveniently and quickly as possible.”

The Potential of a Grocery Delivery Service

As stay-at-home orders persist during the COVID-19 pandemic, many have relied on delivery apps for their food. According to Uber, its restaurant delivery service Uber Eats has seen orders increase more than 100% since the same period last year, as reported by Cnet.

“And in the more than 30 countries,” places where Uber conducted tests about grocery delivery,” it said it has seen a 176% increase in grocery orders since February,” the Cnet report added.

On-demand food delivery remains to be competitive as Caviar, Grubhub, Seamless, and DoorDash do restaurant deliveries while Instacart and Amazon Fresh do deliveries.

As of Tuesday, Uber's grocery delivery service is available in 19 cities in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Canada. Later this month, it will launch in the U.S. in Miami and Dallas. The company plans to eventually make the service available worldwide.
