21-year-old Reeaz Khan, undocumented immigrant, was accused of sexually assaulting and killing 92-year-old Maria Fuertes while she walked near her home on January 6th. Khan pleaded not guilty in a New York courtroom on Thursday.
According to Fox News, prosecutors asked the judge for an additional two weeks before proceeding. A new court date has been scheduled for February 24th.

In the surveillance footage, Khan is seen following Fuertes and knocking her to the ground near some parked cars. Khan is also seen sexually assaulting Fuertes and fleeing from the scene. “This was a senseless, brutal act of violence. The victim was found with her clothes pulled above her waist, and near death,” said District Attorney Melinda Katz.
A passerby called 911 and Fuertes was brought to a nearby hospital where she died of her injuries. Khan’s brother saw the footage and turned him in. Khan was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree sexual assault. He first told investigators that Fuertes fell, and he tried to help her up. Fox News reported that his excuse “quickly crumbled” during questioning and Khan admitted to having sexually assaulted Fuertes.
On Monday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement demanded the city hand over information on Khan.
