Walmart will be launching its membership program, Walmart+, on September 15th.

“Walmart+ uses the company’s unique assets to make life easier for busy families,” the company said in an announcement. “Along with the power of its online presence, Walmart+ has the reach of more than 4,700 stores,” it added. These include “2,700 stores that offer delivery as fast as same day.”

Members will enjoy unlimited free delivery, fuel discounts, and access to tools that make shopping more convenient.

Membership will cost $98 a year or $12.95 a month and includes a 15-day free trial period.

“We are a company committed to meeting our customers’ needs,” said Janey Whiteside, chief customer officer at Walmart. “Customers know they can trust us and depend on us, and we’ve designed this program as the ultimate life hack for them. Walmart+ will bring together a comprehensive set of benefits where we see the greatest needs from our customers and where our scale can bring solutions at an unprecedented value.”

According to Fox Business, the launch indicates Walmart’s investment in its e-commerce sector. This has seen exponential growth during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In the three months through June, the retailer saw a 79% surge in profits as more Americans ordered goods online while at home. E-commerce revenue spiked 97% from the same time a year ago, while sales at U.S. stores open at least a year rose 9.3%,” Fox Business reported.

“Life feels more complicated than ever. Walmart+ is designed to make it easier – giving customers an option to not have to sacrifice on cost or convenience,” Whiteside said.

She then added: “We know shopping should fit customers’ needs, not the other way around. We have always been a champion for the right item at the right price, but now it’s more than that. We have the right shopping solutions at the right time, too.”
