Whole Foods Issues Voluntary Recall for Select Macaroni & Cheese Products Due to Undeclared Egg

Whole Foods issued a voluntary recall for select Macaroni & Cheese products as it may contain egg, which is not listed on the label.

“Whole Foods Market is voluntarily recalling select prepared Macaroni & Cheese products from stores across five states because they contain undeclared egg. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the company announcement reads.

The recall notice on the FDA’s website identified products with best-by dates from October 23 through October 28, 2020. Consumers who shopped at Whole Foods Market stores in five states are advised to check products in plastic containers. These states include Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington D.C. The same shoppers should also check those in family-style meal kits.

Fox Business reported that the products “were also available from the chef’s case counter and from Whole Foods Market online and catering menus, according to the recall notice.”

BGR explained that the mac and cheese was not just sold as a separate food item. It was also included in pre-packaged meals that had other foods. These include fried chicken, chicken breast, BBQ turkey meatballs, and roasted turkey.

According to the announcement, all affected products have been removed from store shelves. No allergic reactions have been reported so far.
