Xerox has recently announced its Team Availability App to track employee accessibility and location with their consent.

According to the company, it is essential for employers and work leaders to know where and when employees are available. They need this information to manage a flexible work environment.

“Managing a distributed workforce during a continued pandemic presents unique challenges no organization has experienced before,” said Joanne Collins Smee, Xerox Executive Vice President. “Organizations need to know who is available and where so they can make better decisions when allocating resources and work.”

According to Smee, the tool “provides real-time knowledge to managers with distributed employee populations.”

Xerox encourages employees to use the app to conduct daily health checks. First, users must log in with their work emails. Then, they need to confirm that neither they nor a family member has experienced any COVID-19 symptoms within 14 days. After this, they need to indicate whether they are working in the office or remotely.

According to a press release, the U.K.'s Imperial NHS Trust was the first organization to pilot the Xerox Team Availability App.

“It's important for a healthcare provider to know which caregivers are available when to support patients, and that's even more critical in a pandemic,” said Linda Watts, joint clinical systems program manager at Imperial NHS Trust.

Watts also said that Xerox released the app “at lightning speed, and we got updates from staff on their availability in real-time. As a result, we could always make sure our patients were covered.”
