No Plan for Return: 40,000 Americans Stranded in Afghanistan with No Plan from Biden Admin
New reports reveal that up to 40,000 Americans remain stranded in Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover of the country after the disastrous way President Joe Biden handled the U.S.’s exit.
Per Josh Rogin of the Washington Post, an administration official, who was unauthorized to speak on record, reportedly told him that around 10,000 U.S. citizens are in Afghanistan. The majority of those people live within or nearby Kabul. Some of the said residents work in journalism or are aid workers who might not want to leave.
However, Rogin further said that most of them are trying to escape. Some of the said people carry dual citizenship or are the children of U.S. citizens who may not have the proper documentation and the State Department still had not given them instructions on how to fix their passports or visas.
The Daily Mail, however, reported that 40,000 Americans are actually stranded in Afghanistan. Out of that figure, only 700 are planned to be evacuated by Tuesday.
“We could have done a lot more to help. The administration waited too long,” a military official told Reuters. “Every decision has come too late and in reaction to events that make the subsequent decision obsolete,” the official added.
“The source and another U.S. official told Reuters that the administration so badly misjudged the situation that the State Department flew a regular rotation of diplomats into Kabul last Tuesday even as the Taliban advanced toward the capital,” the Reuters report further stated.
The Pentagon revealed that there is currently no plan for the safe return of Americans.
“Biden Administration spokesman John Kirby told CNN this morning that the Administration has no plans to help Americans hiding in Afghanistan get to the airport to be evacuated,” the House Republicans’ official Twitter account posted.
The way Biden handled the exit from Afghanistan has been deemed to be so bad that some people are already starting to push for his removal from office via the 25th Amendment.
