Approximately 2,000 people directly affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks are calling on President Joe Biden to avoid participating in 20th-anniversary memorial events unless he declassifies the documents they believe will pinpoint the attacks to Saudi Arabia.

In a statement obtained by NBC News, the group of first responders, relatives of victims, and survivors say that they can’t, “in good faith, and with veneration to those lost, sick, and injured, welcome the president to our hallowed grounds until he fulfills his commitment.”

The statement adds that ever since the end of the 9/11 Commission back in 2004, a lot of evidence has been discovered that would implicate government officials of Saudi Arabia in backing the terrorist attacks. It also says that, through several administrations, the Justice Department and FBI both have sought to keep this a secret. They have also stopped the American people from finding out the truth about the attacks.

Group Wants Biden Administration to Release Findings on Probe Looking Into the Possible Linke of Saudi to 9/11

Some of the documents this group wants to see include findings of an FBI investigation that ended in 2016. The said investigation looked into the possible connection of Saudi to the attacks.

Saudi Arabia has denied all allegations that it had anything to do with the attacks.

The group mentions in their statement that the president promised more transparency during his campaign and that he would release information. However, they noted that his administration still has yet to answer requests from them since his inauguration.

Since 2001, the United States has seen three administrations pass. All three have turned down requests for releasing information, using national security concerns as their basis.

The group claims that the government had no reason to keep the findings a secret. They say “unmerited claims of ‘national security’” is not a valid enough reason.

The statement adds, “But if President Biden reneges on his commitment and sides with the Saudi government, we would be compelled to publicly stand in objection to any participation by his administration in any memorial ceremony of 9/11.”
