Details of Boulder Shooting Still Hazy

The shooter’s motive remains unknown at this time. However, Boulder Police Department reported that they already have the suspect in custody. In addition, the unnamed suspect received injuries during the eventual confrontation with local police. A live television feed earlier showed officers leading a man away from the scene. In particular, it showed a shirtless, bloodied, and handcuffed man. Afterward, police took the suspect to an area hospital for treatment for his injuries.

At a press conference last night, Boulder Police Commander Kerry Yamaguchi said witnesses reported that the suspect suddenly opened fire inside a Kings Sooper supermarket. Consequently, customers and employees panicked as gunfire and screaming rang throughout the vicinity. Initial reports placed the suspect’s weapon as an AR-style rifle. In a separate account, a law enforcement source recounted the events. Officers responded to a call of a parking lot shooting. When they arrived, they saw a suspect with a “long gun,”  who promptly opened fire.

Officer Eric Talley, 51

Among the casualties was Officer Eric Talley, 51, an 11-year  veteran of the Boulder Police Department. Talley was the first officer to arrive at the scene. During the tragedy, the suspect fired on Talley, who died from his wounds.

The Boulder shooting made Talley the sixth Boulder officer killed in the line of duty. He was a father to seven children between 20 and 7. Prior to the shooting, Talley started training as a drone operator. He said he thought operating a drone is less dangerous than going on patrol duty. Also, Talley previously gained fame in 2013, when he rescued a family of ducks from a drainage ditch.

Heroic Actions

Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold said Officer Talley called Talley’s actions heroic. “Our hearts … go out to the victims of this horrific incident,” he said. He praised Talley for this heroism in responding to the call to prevent more victims. “Officer Talley responded to the scene, was first on the scene, and he was fatally shot,” Herold said. The police department shared a photo of Talley on Twitter Monday night. “Rest In Peace Officer Eric Talley.” They said that they will forever remember the officer's service to his countrymen. In addition, the officers added a hashtag #BoulderShooting at the end of their message.

Elsewhere, Colorado Governor Jared Polis issued a statement Monday night on the tragedy. “Today, ten lives were tragically lost, including Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley. And tonight, the families of these victims, our fellow Coloradans, my neighbors, are hearing the devastating news that their loved one who simply woke up and went to work this morning, or who ran out to pick up eggs, won't be coming home,” he said. In addition, Polis noted that this year's events surrounded them with loss of life, illness, and isolation. “Today we saw the face of evil. I am grieving with my community and all Coloradans,” Polis added.

Boulder Will Secure Justice

Meanwhile, Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty promised swift action to bring the suspect to answer for his misdeeds. “Boulder has suffered a terrible and horrific mass shooting today … this is not the first mass shooting that we have had in the state of Colorado,” he said. “I promise the victims and the people of the state of Colorado we will secure justice,” he added.

“My heart goes out to Eric Talley's family, his loved ones, and his colleagues. His life was cut far too short. I also want to stress how incredibly sorry I am for all the victims killed today at King Soopers. These were people going about their day, shopping, and their lives were cut abruptly and tragically short by the shooter who is now in custody. I promise the victims and the people of Colorado that we will secure justice,” Dougherty added.

Federal Investigation Ongoing

Meanwhile, Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are assisting with the investigation, Acting U.S. Attorney for Colorado Matthew Kirsch said. US Attorney General Merrick Garland also received a briefing on the situation.

Breaking News Alerts sends its sympathies to the victims of this terrible tragedy. As the investigation remains ongoing, we encourage anyone with information about the incident to call the Boulder Police Department at 303-441-3333.

    Empathize with the victims families.

  • Anonymous says:

My reaction varies. In the case of a student going berserker and killing classmates I often feel first for the killer. I ask, ”What did they suffer to push them to this and how many of the victims really had it coming.” Over all my reaction depends on the case–people with poor impulse control who are maybe over-medicated go wild — with or without a weapon of any kind start pushing, yelling, hitting, stabbing, shooting.

  • Joe in texas says:

I empathize with the people that had their lives damaged or destroyed. No law was going to have any effect on this individual, he would have found a way to get around the laws, the actions are already illegal. Assault rifles cannot be owned by civilians since 1934 and modified to be more restrictive in 1986. So if your going to do nothing more than blame ghosts be quiet and let the adults get on with it.

  • Anonymous says:

Give him death the same same day as his conviction no one who behaves in such a manner and is is irresponsible with his or her salon desrves to be able to survive since that person didn’t give his victims a chance he shouldn’t have even been taken to the hospital that is a crime in its self to give him treatment he didn’t deserve it

  • Al in NM says:

First, my sympathies to all the victims families, you should not have to go through this. However, I find it interesting that these shootings seem to uptick just a the Feds are pushing gun control. call it conspiracy theory if you will, but I do not think it is a coincidence. Nothing proposed (or sadly already enacted) would stop this kind of action.

  • Diana says:

    Praying for the families

  • nightlight says:

    “the unnamed suspect”?
Isn’t this supposed to be a “news” story?
WHY is the suspect not being named?
Ten to one, it’s because the suspect is a Muslim, because his name would identify him as such, and
because the corrupt, dangerously politically correct news media would rather be burned at the
stake than reveal the truth about Islam and what a nightmare on wheels it is and constantly
    proves itself to be.

  • Chuck says:

My thoughts exactly what a coincidence

  • Linda says:

My first thought is why? Why did this happen, what made the killer, kill random people? Then of course I felt sorry for the victims and the witnesses to this horrifying event. Prayers for the families of victims and the witnesses. Also for the killer’s family members, they are victims, because they are often attacked as revenge or media circus happens.

  • Jimmy says:

I have family in Colorado. Near Boulder.Right now there needs to be a clear a good investigation. Secondly if it is a mental health issue then this is where the problem lies with so many shootings. If it is Terri sim then that is another issue altogether. I too find it very strange about the timing of this all of this conspiracy theories aside. Harris said if she were elected she would work to disarm all Americans. She is a socialists vowed to destroy America. She could not even get the nomination of her own party so puppet boy Biden takes puts her there as VP. What happened at the White House was terrible. But if you try to take guns from good people who use them responsibly will be nothing short of starting a war in this county. Guns are not the issue mental illness and irresponsible people are the issue. I weep for those who lost their lives in Colorado. Thank God for the police officer who heroically gave his life so other lives could be spared. His peace a comfort to all the families who are grieving.

  • Pit says:

Mine is here we go aging with the left wing wanting to take our gun rights. If just a couple of people would have had a firearm on then these acts of violence may could have ended sooner. When bs like this goes down seconds matter when your waiting on police officer’s to arrive on the scene.

Also, there’s no doubt that this individual is guilty. He should be stood up outside in the market parking lot and be shot between the eyes with the people that choose to witness it can.

  • Dan says:

Ahmad Al Issa……Islamic terrorist? You be the judge.

  • David says:

How about all of the gun owners that haven’t killed anyone today? It’s in the millions. You’ll never hear that news.

  • al amith says:

I usually think.. why arent we allowed to carry guns so this madman could have been killed on the spot by those he tried to kill.. now we get to house him feed him and make sure he is “comfortable” for the rest of his miserable life

  • 2WarAbnVet says:

Fortunately for the killer, none of the victims were armed, and thus unable to defend themselves (Just like the Democrats want).

  • vietvet says:

It seems funny to me that every time Dems get in power and start pushing GUN CONTROL events like this flare up exponentially. NOT saying it’s not tragic, but seems very convenient to say the least.

  • Pit says:

ANONYMOUS – I agree 100%. He should been stood up in the Market parking lot and shot right then. Done and over with.

  • Chas says:

@Vietvet…I was thinking the damn thing! Not one mass shooting under the last administration. Now 2 under the current administration. Heart goes out to the victims family’s and friends!

  • The professor says:

Mr. night light ….you were right he has a Middle Eastern name I don’t know if he’s Muslim but check out his name when you have a chance

  • Mike says:

Amazing how you are unnamed if you’re a Syrian.

  • Joseph Kinge says:

When the good people are armed, the number of bad people will dwindle. If those shoppers were armed, the officer would be alive and the shooter would be dead!! The mayor of Boulder is to blame!!

  • ROBERT A. ABADIE says:

YOU ARE GOING TO FIND WHEN THE SHIT GETS OUT OF THE WAY IT WAS A MUSLUM BASTARD. BUT REMEMBER WE MUST PLAY NICEY NICE WITH THEM!! I SAY PISS ON THOSE WORTHLESS ASS HOLES.I AM SICK OF THIS SHIT OF PEOPLE BEING WHAT THEY ARE NOT. BLACK PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE ARE NOT AFRICAN AMERICANS THEY ARE JUST PLAIN OLD AMERICANS AND SHOULD NOT BE SHOWN OTHERWISE. I DO
NOT CALL MY SELF AN IRISH FRENCH GERMAN AMERICAN. MY GRANDFATHER FOUGHT IN THE CIVIL WAR FOR THE UNION. HE WAS BORN IN FRANCE. TO GET BACK TO THE SUBJECT.SINCE TIME BEGAN THERE
HAVE BEEN MAINIACS AND ALWAYS WILL BE.AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. IT REALLY PISSESME WHEN I HEAR ABOUT THINGS LIKE THIS, BUT MY HEART GOES OUT TO ALL. WHAT IS THE WORST IS THE
ONE THAT KILLS A LOT OF FOLKS,THEN HIMSELF. THEY ARE NOTHING BUT HUMAN WASTE.GOD BLESS.

  • Donna says:

I’d like to hear the shooter’s explanation of why he did this. But my first thought nowadays when something like this happens is: False Flag to stir up outrage to justify stricter gun laws. If the shooter really is Islamic, then it could be jihad related, but not enough info has been released to know that yet. People these days are stupid enough to embrace “anti-racist math” that teaches that any answer to a math problem is OK and that getting the correct answer is racist if the student is white or Asian… so I don’t expect these same idiots to discern the difference between a lunatic shooter out to kill randomly, and a law-abiding citizen who wants the ability to defend his family against criminals. I bet soon it becomes “racist” for white victims to even try to defend against or bring charges against criminals of color… would not surprise me at all!

  • Anonymous says:

She should in public televised on TV be hung started on fire and have his victims families be given the opportunity to shoot at him while he’s on fire. Coward.!!! Why don’t these pussies ever shoot up a police station or a gun store.

  • Sidney Redford says:

I feel for the families, but I know that the first thing coming is more GUN COTROL, from the dems, and others that would like to overthrow our great country. When someone uses their car like a weapon, jumps the curb and kills people you don’t here them calling for controls on them.

  • Loggerman says:

I feel bad and it breaks my heart to see these incidents. I also feel terrible about the death of the Officer especially when I found that he had seven children. The next thing that I know is coming is the Government’s reaction, “Blame guns” especially the AR-15 instead of the shooter. If the shooter is an Islamic terrorist which I believe he is (Ahmad Al Alsi Alissa) from Syria is this a coordinated attack. Ironically, HR 8 is about to be voted on. It bans so called “assault weapons” and is one of the most drastic and dangerous bills that would effectively disarm good, Law Abiding citizens. The Government will play right into the hands of these terrorists by disarming us and letting them continue to kill with any weapon that they wish.
