Apple is going to produce millions of face shields for health care workers. The tech giant says this is part of the company’s effort to help the workers fighting COVID-19 in the U.S.,

“We've launched a company-wide effort bringing together product designers, engineering, operations, and packing teams and our suppliers, to design, produce, and ship face shields for health workers,” said CEO Tim Cook in a video on Twitter.

“Apple is dedicated to supporting the worldwide response to COVID-19. We’ve now sourced over 20M masks through our supply chain. Our design, engineering, operations and packaging teams are also working with suppliers to design, produce and ship face shields for medical workers,” read Cook’s tweet.

Doing Their Part

According to Fox News, Apple previously announced that it had secured 10 million masks for medical workers. The company debuted a new COVID-19 website and app soon after.

Cook said they sent the first shipment to Kaiser hospital facilities in California's Santa Clara valley this past week. He also mentioned that he received positive feedback from the doctors.

“We plan to ship over 1 million by the end of this week,” he said. He also mentioned that the plan to produce “over 1 million per week after that.”

This effort is initially for U.S. health care workers. The company, however, “hopes to expand it enough to aid workers in other countries impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak,” reported Fox News.

Cook reminded people that we can “stop the spread of the virus by following expert advice to stay home and practice social distancing” as he concluded the video. He also thanked those who do their part – with special mention to those on the frontlines.
