Biden Admin Wants to Overturn Trump Order That Helps Send Immigrants Back to Mexico
The Biden administration is currently considering abruptly ending a Trump administration policy that allows Border Patrol to quickly return illegal immigrant families to Mexico.
On Sunday night, Axios reported that the Biden administration could stop the implementation of Title 42, a Trump administration policy, at the border as early as July 31.
The said policy allowed many immigrants from Mexico to be swiftly turned away from staying in the U.S.
As per the report, the CDC had opposed the use of a public health order to turn away migrants. Additionally, it said a White House official stated that “a public health decision … will be made ultimately on those grounds.”
Earlier in June, a Washington Post report revealed that Customs and Border Protection apprehension rates for the month of May. It shows that families being turned away under Title 42 continued to decline.
Despite Title 42’s implementation, May saw eight out of 10 families released into the country. They were allowed to pursue their immigration cases.
Regarding the matter, Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) tweeted that Border Patrol agents informed her that they need to keep Title 42 in place while they try to manage the illegal immigration spike.
CBP has continued to use Title 42 in limiting the number of illegal immigrants coming from Mexico who stay in the U.S. According to the agency, they expelled over 100,000 people in May.
