Fall approval and rating of the candidate-approval rating

In a Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday, the President’s approval rating is now at 38%. In contrast, those who disapprove of the President are at 53%.

The previous Quinnipiac poll last month showed a 42% approval rating and a 50% disapproval rating for the Democrat President.

Quinnipiac University’s survey involved asking 1,326 adults nationwide. The sampling error is plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.

Meanwhile. Biden got negative scores in double digits on almost all key issues outlined in the latest survey. It covered the period October 1 to 4, with the majority of respondents believing that the Biden administration is running the government incompetently.

Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy gave a succinct summary of the President’s performance. “Battered on trust, doubted on leadership, and challenged on overall competency, President Biden is being hammered on all sides as his approval rating continues its downward slide to a number not seen since the tough scrutiny of the Trump administration,” he said.

Bad Reviews on Afghanistan, COVID, and Migrants

Previously, the Democrat’s approval rating stayed in the low to mid-50s during his first half-year into office. The numbers began dropping in August as the government fumbled the country’s exit from Afghanistan.

Instead of an orderly withdrawal managed by the US Armed Forces, troops had to rush along with US civilians as the Taliban imposed a deadline to get out.

In addition, COVID-19 numbers in the US exploded over the summer. Even with a full arsenal of COVID-19 vaccines, the government continues to struggle in getting millions of Americans to vaccinate.

As of late September, COVID deaths have surpassed that of the 1918 Spanish flu. Then, Biden is also getting flak for his mismanagement of the US southern border crisis. Thousands of migrants are now attempting to cross the US border as they become emboldened with the administration’s relaxed policies.

Biden’s Individual Approval and Disapproval Ratings

In the Real Clear Politics compilation, Biden now stands at 45% approval rating and 49% disapproval rating. For his handling of the pandemic, the president received 48% approval and 50% disapproval.

In handling the economy, he received a score of 39%-55%. As commander-in-chief of the military, he got a 37%-58% only 23% approval rating versus 67% disapproval.

On his individual traits, 44% think that the President is honest, while 50% say the opposite. From 52% in April, now only 41% say he has good leadership skills. Overall, 55% of Americans say that the Biden government is not competent to run the United States.

President’s Barometer

Approval ratings are often the barometer of the president’s clout. It also reflects how well his party will do in the coming midterm elections.

Popular presidents often influence voters to choose the incumbent’s party to continue the programs. Conversely, poorly-performing presidents often get to see their party’s seats in Congress reduced.

For 2022, Democrats will need their President to improve his rating if they are to defend their razor-thin majorities in both the House and the Senate.

Republicans are now seeing a glimmer of hope in retaking the majority in both chambers. Biden’s plummeting numbers can cause undecided voters to switch to the GOP and allow them to reclaim the majority
