Biden Names Kamala Harris as VP Candidate

Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden has officially chosen his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA).

Biden announced his long-awaited VP pick in a Tuesday evening tweet. He described her as “one of the country’s finest public servants” in the post. Biden’s campaign says the pair will appear at an event in Wilmington, Delaware. They will comment on “on working together to restore the soul of the nation and fight for working families to move the country forward.”

Harris was one of several candidates in the running for the Biden VP nod. She won out of the job over well-known radical lefties like Michigan Governor Gretchen Wilmer and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). The Biden campaign was eager to select a woman of color for the position. Harris’s half-Indian, half-Jamaican lineage checked those boxes nicely for the party.

A former tough-on-crime prosecutor, Harris’s shift towards radical-left policies helped fuel her recent political rise. She was elected as a California Senator roughly four years ago. Additionally, she even launched a short-lived presidential campaign this year. Harris was one of the first Democratic candidates to drop out of the 2020 race, and there’s also a good chance some promises were made with party leadership in return for her cooperation.

Both Parties React

Republicans quickly pounced on Biden’s ticket. The once-moderate former senator has shifted increasingly to the left over the past few years to satisfy the Democratic party’s populist agenda, and the GOP is painting the pair as radical leftists looking to enact a wide-range of socialist agenda. Both Biden and Harris have expressed support for the $97 trillion Green New Deal and promised to hike income taxes by an average of $1,400.

Some left-biased pundits are praising Harris as a strong debater for her performance at the Democratic primaries where she destroyed Biden, one of her opponents at the time, but Biden isn’t exactly a strong debater. In fact, his campaign has been working overtime to keep him off the debate stage as much as possible. However, no one seems to remember when then-antiestablishment-candidate Tulsi Gabbard attacked Harris’s prosecutorial record on the Democratic debate stage.

Harris’s law enforcement background could become a point of contention among the radical left, who have widely endorsed an anti-police agenda over the past few months in an attempt to assuage populist sentiments. Briahna Joy Gray, Sen. Bernie Sanders’ former national press secretary, also criticized the pick as an affront to the party’s progressive base. “We are in the midst of the largest protest movement in American history, the subject of which is excessive policing, and the Democratic Party chose a “top cop” and the author of the Joe Biden crime bill to save us from Trump. The contempt for the base is, wow,” Gray said.

Republicans and President Trump, however, don’t seem worried or surprised about Biden’s pick. In fact, they quickly responded to the announcement with a media blitz. President Trump posted a video response ad on Twitter that said the pair has “jointly embraced the radical left” with the taglines “perfect together” but “wrong for America.” President Trump called her his “number one pick” to face off against.
