Biden Pushes Through with New Jersey Coast Wind Farm Despite Protests

The Biden administration authorized Orsted A/Ocean S's Wind 1 project on Wednesday, paving the way for the construction of a large wind farm in the seas off New Jersey while rejecting the complaints of people who would have to share their environment with up to 98 turbines.

Interior Secretary Deb Haaland boasted this authorization serves as “another milestone in our efforts to create good-paying union jobs while combating climate change and powering our nation.”

According to Bloomberg, the clearance marks the third commercial-scale initiative of its sort in federal waters to get US government support – all under President Joe Biden.

Ocean Wind 1 joins two additional projects now under construction: the Vineyard Wind project in Massachusetts and the South Fork Wind project in New York.

These are all part of the Biden administration’s aggressive strategy to develop offshore wind farms across millions of acres of federal waters, mostly along the East Coast.

The present New Jersey plan aims for tall towers called monopiles to be erected in 2024 and commercial operations to commence in 2025.
