    • A 17-year-old boy from Alabama was brutally beaten in what is being called a hate crime.
    • The boy was leaving a football game on Friday night when he was assaulted in an empty parking lot.
    • The victim's mother says that the assault came after her son posted his support for police officers on Facebook.
  • Police have suspects but so far no arrests have been made.

Brian Ogle, a 17-year-old boy in Alabama, was brutally beaten in an empty parking lot in Sylacauga. His mother, Brandi Allen, is claiming it's a hate crime. Brian had recently voiced his support for law enforcement officers in the midst of protests over fatal cop shootings.

The attack followed a Friday night football game. Allen told ABC affiliate WBMA that Brian had suffered a fractured skull as well as brain trauma from the assault. She said, “Not knowing if my son is going to make it to his 18th birthday this month. I don’t know if anybody can understand what that feels like.”

A spokesperson from the hospital in Birmingham said that Brian's condition is improving and he has been moved from critical to fair.

Apparently, a group of students at Brian's school had worn “Black Lives Matter” t-shirts to school. This prompted Brian to post his views about his support for the police on Facebook. Along with his message for his support he also included a video of a black man giving hugs to officers in Charlotte.

Although it is unsure if Brian's attack is linked to his “Blue Lives Matter” support, authorities have confirmed that there have been related issue at Sylacauga High School. Authorities also believe that they may have evidence that points to not only students at Brian's school but also to a Black Lives Matter movement. So, further investigation will be made into the case.

Kelly Johnson, the Police Chief of Sylacauga said, “I am not one to ‘sweep’ any crime under anything much less a crime as violent as this. I now ask everyone to pray for the 17-year-old victim of this assault, his family, the officers and investigators working the case and while you're at it say a little prayer for our community as a whole so that maybe we can get past this and be a stronger community because of it. I call on our pastors and community leaders to step up and help us bridge this divide between the black and white races.”

Johnson also said that the security at the high schools and middle schools of Sylacauga have been greatly increased.

Brian's mother, Allen, said, “I want to see them in jail. My son could have lost his life. I won’t stop until they are punished. This most certainly is a race issue; it’s a hate crime.”
