Gabby Petito Confirmed As Dead Woman Found Near Grand Teton Park
Officials finally confirmed that the dead body found near Grand Teton National Park over the weekend was Gabby Petito. The 22-year old woman was reported missing last September 11 while on a cross-country trip with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie.
Last September 19, authorities found a dead body “consistent with the description of” Petito. It was discovered within the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming last Sunday.
It took a little more time for forensic investigators to complete their examination. Also, they have yet to determine the cause of death. Initially, coroners ruled a homicide. However, the final verdict remains pending final autopsy results, according to Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue.
Tragic Road Trip
Gabby Petito, a 22-year old New Yorker, started on a road trip last July with Laundrie. They rode a van, Petito’s 2021 Ford Transit, and started from Florida, where Laundrie resided.
Many people, including Petito’s mother Nichole Schmidt, were aware of the trip. The couple regularly posted pictures and updates of their trip on their social media.
Last August 12m Moab, Utah police responded to an “incident” involving the couple. Officers responded to a report of a domestic problem. A witness reported that a couple was arguing at the Arches National Park.
Police went to talk to them but let them go. Police reported that the couple, identified as Laundrie and Petito, admitted to arguing. Petito also admitted to slapping Laundrie.
However, Moab Police Department Chief Bret Edge said last week that “insufficient evidence existed to justify criminal charges.”
Gabby Last Talked To Her Mother on August 24
Petito was last seen leaving a Utah hotel on August 24 with Laundrie. Her mother, Nichole Schmidt, last talked to her daughter the next day. She said that their next destinations are the Grand Teton and Yellowstone.
Afterward, Schmidt said she received two text messages from Petito's phone after August 25. However, there were no photos or details from the trip or any social positing.
At this time, it’s unclear if Petito actually sent those messages. Petito also posted her last picture on Instagram on August 25.
On August 29, a witness claimed that she and her boyfriend gave Laundrie a ride in Grand Teton National Park. Meanwhile. Schmidt filed a missing person report on September 11 after not hearing from her daughter for more than two weeks.
Laundrie Went Home To Florida Alone But Left Immediately
Reports also showed that Laundrie went home alone to Florida by September 1 and drove Petito’s white Ford van. By September 14th, Laundrie said he will not talk to anyone about what happened upon the advice of his lawyer.
He then left the house on September 17 and said he was going to the Carlton Reserve. His whereabouts are presently unknown. FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider issued a statement saying that Laundrie is now a “person of interest.”

Hello…the guy left in her van and went home…why did her mom have to file a missing person report instead of the boyfriend?
Also, why didn’t the police press charges against Gabby for “admitting” to slapping the boyfriend? If it was him that slapped her, then he would have been arrested. Charging her and arresting her may have actually saved her life.
