Captain Murders Christians On The High Seas

A captain of a boat lost at sea back in 2014 is being tried for the murder of six passengers.
He apparently forced six Christians off the boat due to their religious beliefs, witnesses said.
It's said that he, and his second in command, beat the passengers with boards before throwing them off the boat.
The trial is ongoing.

In 2014, a small boat was almost lost at sea when it got caught in a fierce storm. The captain, Alain N. B., a Cameroonian immigrant, blamed six Christian passengers aboard the craft. In an effort to stop the storm he forced the six Christian men off the boat to their deaths. Of course, that didn't stop the storm because storms don't work that way. What it did get him, however, was a seat in court for the murder of six men.

Some of the 29 survivors, out of 50 that originally boarded the boat near Nador, said the captain “blamed the rough seas which were rocking the boat on the prayers led by a Catholic, Nigerian, pastor on board”. They went on to say that the captain, and his second in command, “believed that the weather worsened every time the victims prayed”.

The survivor's testimonies went on to say that the two, captain and second in command, ripped planks of wood off the boat structure and beat the Nigerian pastor. They then continued to search other passengers for symbols or amulets of the Christian religion. Apparently, the found what they were looking for because the survivors claimed that they beat five other passengers before forcing them overboard.

The prosecution claims that the captain, “was aware that the victims could not possibly survive and that they would die, either by drowning, from the cold, or from the physical injuries they had suffered. He was aware of the low temperature, the rough seas and the great distance from the coast and the absence of any nearby boats which could rescue them”.

The prosecutor is hoping to get a 90-year prison sentence for the six murdered passengers. That equals out to six separate 15-year sentences.

So far only one of the bodies has been found.

Back in 2014, when rescuers came upon the boat they discovered that at least 21 passengers had died. Among those that died were seven babies. The mothers were unable to hold onto them in the rough waters of the storm.

The captain and his second in command are currently in trial, which is expected to last for several days.
