According to the police, a large party with “several young people” was ongoing when the incident took place. Officers arrived at the scene with several people already trying to flee as more shots were heard from the said property.
More than 10 people suffered injuries during the incident. Jaiden Brown and Mathew Steffy-Ross, both 17, were killed on the scene. The others who suffered gunshot wounds were rushed by first responders to nearby hospitals, while others drove themselves to hospitals in the city.
Up to 50 rounds of ammo were fired during the said incident, and this sent partygoers running for any exit they could find. Several people tried to flee by jumping out the window, causing injuries such as lacerations and broken bones while doing so.
Currently, the police are still looking for suspects in the incident.
South Carolina
Over the weekend, several major shootings took place in South Carolina. The first one happened on Saturday when nine people suffered gunshot wounds in a shooting that took place at a Columbia Mall. Meanwhile, five other people were injured while attempting to flee the scene but no one was reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities arrested one suspect in the incident: Jewayne Price, 22. The said suspect claimed that he opened fire to defend himself during a confrontation.
Around 90 miles north of this incident, in Hampton Country, another nine people suffered injuries during a shooting incident that took place early Sunday morning, at a club hosting an “Easter bash.”
According to witnesses, the chaotic scene at the venue saw a shooting break out with partygoers trying to escape the violence in all directions.
“We didn’t know where the shots were coming from. So we just ran to try to get to safety and then we fell, and we were just trying to get to safety because everyone was running and screaming,” Jasasi Williams, a witness, told WTOC.
None of the nine victims suffered any fatal injuries, and the police are still looking for suspects in the incident.
