Elon Musk Takes Gloves Off and Calls Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill a ‘Disgusting Abomination’

Elon Musk waited just 72 hours after stepping down from his role in the Department of Government Efficiency to launch a full-scale attack on the Trump administration. In a post on X, Musk condemned the administration’s sweeping new tax and immigration bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination” that would drown the U.S. in “crushingly unsustainable debt.”
Why Musk is Going Scorched-Earth Now
During his time in government, Musk was known for choosing his battles. He routinely played mediator between agencies and the White House. But insiders say his patience ran out after the Trump administration pushed forward with a proposal that includes both a 12% income tax reduction and a four-year path to citizenship for certain undocumented immigrants working in defense-related fields.
According to Musk, the pairing of long-term revenue loss with expanded benefit obligations makes no budgetary sense. “They’re giving away income while promising higher outlays,” he said in a follow-up post. “This is fiscal malpractice disguised as patriotism.”
A Disgusting Abomination of A Tax Bill
The tech mogul’s post drew immediate reaction. Supporters praised him for calling out what others in Washington wouldn’t. Critics say he’s undermining a bill that still has broad popular support among middle-class voters and military families. Some observers believe the attack is timed to undercut Trump’s messaging ahead of the next budget hearings.
Musk’s defenders argue that waiting until after his exit was the only responsible path. “If he had spoken while in government, it would’ve caused a crisis,” said one former aide. “Now he can speak freely.”
Political Stakes are Rising
What makes the “disgusting abomination” comment more explosive is its source. Musk was one of the most high-profile appointments in Trump’s second term. His public break with the White House over a major policy shift could erode confidence among fiscal conservatives and libertarian voters, many of whom looked to Musk as a voice of restraint inside the administration.
Whether this will hurt or help Trump politically is unclear. But one thing is certain: Elon Musk is no longer playing diplomat. He’s now one of the loudest voices warning that this bill may destabilize both the budget and border policy for years to come.
