For Italian Muslims, Polygamy Is A Civil Right

  • A legislation was passed in Italy that allows same-sex “civil unions,” and the Muslim community is pissed.
  • Hamza Piccardo has gone out publicly to say that if same-sex unions are legal then polygamy should be legal as well.
  • Not only is Piccardo fighting for this, but he is promoting his philosophy on Facebook.
  • Politicians in Italy are outraged.

A bickering battle is now taking over the streets of Italy. A recent legislation was signed that allows same-sex couples to enter into “civil unions.” Well, as you can imagine the Muslim population in Italy is outraged. Same-sex “unions, marriages, etc.” is looked down upon in the Muslim culture, however having multiple wives is not.

Hamza Piccardo, the founder of the Union of Islamic Communities and Organizations in Italy (UCOII), claimed that if the Muslim community has to endure same-sex unions the Italian people should have to endure polygamy. He took to Facebook to spread the polygamist agenda by saying that polygamy is a civil right. He also claimed that Italy would prosper from polygamy because of the larger number of Muslim births that would quickly follow.

Piccardo's message on Facebook read, “When it comes to civil rights here, then polygamy is a civil right. Muslims do not agree with homosexual partnerships, and yet they have to accept a system that allows it. There is no reason why Italy should not accept polygamous marriages of consenting persons.”

Of course, like any “equality” movement, the idea of polygamy was met with outrage by several politicians.

The deputy chairman of the ruling Democratic Party, Debora Serracchiani said, “Centuries of fighting for women’s rights can not simply be brushed aside,” she added, “Polygamy has nothing to do with civil rights.”

An MEP for the mass migration Northern League, Paolo Grimoldi said, “This is the moderate Islam, with which the Italian government intends to keep the dialogue open.”

The initial Facebook post from Piccardo has sparked a massive uprising among the Italian citizens. Apparently, the people of Italy are not fans of the idea. However, Piccardo continues to push the “civil right” button.

Yet, civil rights aren't the only thing that Piccardo says polygamy has to offer. He is claiming that polygamy would fix the economy and offer up more foreign labor. He said, “Do not underestimate the demographic action of polygamy. It would rebalance population decline and the consequent need for foreign labor.”

Reports have stated that youth unemployment has been at a steady 40% over the past year. Now, I don't know about you, but I don't think flooding the market with more unemployed youths will help that statistic.

An increasing growth of the Global Network of Rainbow Catholics is the reason behind the “civil union” legislation being passed. Italy is an extremely Catholic country, and for all of you Catholics out there, you know that means rules, traditions, and family. However, Italy has been open to widening their horizons, which resulted in the passing of the legislation that allows same-sex unions.

No offense to Mr. Piccardo, but there's a time and a place for everything. Italy has already moved (hardly) on their stance of same-sex unions, you have to give them time before you try and move them again.
