On Saturday, Iran's Revolutionary Guard threatened to avenge the killing of its top general, Qasem Soleimani.

According to Newsweek, the head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) “has threatened retaliation for the U.S. assassination of a revered military figure.”

The Killing of Lt. General Qasem Soleimani

A drone strike outside Baghdad airport on January 3rd killed the head of the Revolutionary Guards Quds Force, Lt. General Qasem Soleimani. President Donald Trump then justified the assassination. He said he was the “world's number one terrorist” and “the mass murderer of American troops.”

Fox News then reported that the guard’s website quoted Gen. Hossein Salami: “Mr. Trump! Our revenge for martyrdom of our great general is obvious, serious and real.”

On the other hand, President Trump warned that Washington would severely respond to any Iranian attempts to take revenge for the death of Soleimani. He also tweeted that “if they hit us in any way, any form, written instructions already done we're going to hit them 1000 times harder.”

Trump then responded. It came after a report that Iran was plotting an assassination of the U.S. ambassador to South Africa in retaliation for Soleimani's killing.

“We took out the world's number one terrorist and the mass murderer of American troops and many, many troops and many people all over the world,” Trump said. “Qasem Soleimani is dead. He's dead. Bad guy. Bad guy. Very bad guy,” he then added.

Salami denied the report about the plan to assassinate Ambassador Lana Marks, but he also said Iran intends to avenge the general's death.

“We will hit the people who, directly and indirectly, played a role in the martyrdom of the great man [Soleimani],” said Salami.
