In Michigan, Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s coronavirus stay-at-home order now bans traveling to another home. The governor has extended the order until May 1st.

Stay-At-Home Order Expanded

According to Whitmer: “Michigan has the third-highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country, and we’re still on the upswing. We must continue to do everything we can to slow the spread and protect our families.”

According to Fox News, there are some exceptions to the order. These include “caring for a relative or their pet, a child, an elderly or disabled person, visiting someone in a health care facility, or attending a funeral with fewer than 10 people.”

“All public and private gatherings of any size are prohibited,” Whitmer said during a news conference. Additionally, she stated that “People can still leave the house for outdoor activities…recreational activities are still permitted as long as they’re taking place outside of six feet from anyone else.”

Other exceptions include visiting a home outside of the state or returning to Michigan from another state. The order also deems driving to a Michigan state park as an exception to the stay-at-home order.

The order also means that large stores must limit the number of people to no more than four customers at a time for every 1,000 square feet. Smaller stores must limit the capacity to 25 percent, and this includes their employees.

In addition to these policies, large stores must also close areas dedicated to furniture, carpeting, plant nurseries, paint, and garden centers, according to a report by Fox News. The governor reminds residents that “if you're not buying food or medicine or other essential items, you should not be going to the store.”
