On Wednesday, Representative Mo Brooks (R-AL) said former President Donald Trump asked him to rescind the 2020 elections.
In effect, Trump wanted Brooks to help remove President Joe Biden and put him back in the White House. However, Brooks told Trump that his plan was not legal.

Rep. Mo Brooks Said He Drew Trump’s Ire By Not Following His Order
In a statement, Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks said that he drew Trump’s ire by telling him that his plan wasn’t legal.
Later, the Alabama representative told the media that Trump proposed a series of events to reclaim the presidency last September. This is more than seven months after Biden’s inauguration on January 20.
Earlier Wednesday, the former President said that he was withdrawing his endorsement for Brooks in the coming May GOP primary. Brooks is gunning for one of Alabama’s two Senate slots.
Trump cited the reason that Brooks called for the GOP to move on from the 2020 presidential election. In fact, Brooks did make that suggestion at a Trump rally last September. He said that Republicans should focus instead on winning the 2022 and 2024 elections.
Mo Brooks Doubles Down After Trump Removes His Endorsement
“I repeat what has prompted President Trump’s ire,” Brooks said in his statement. He insisted that “the only legal way America can prevent 2020′s election debacle is for patriotic Americans to focus on and win the 2022 and 2024 elections”. This is the way to get the power to make laws for “honest and accurate elections.”
Then, Rep. Mo Brooks repeated what he said was Trump’s request to rescind the elections. “President Trump asked me to rescind the 2020 elections, immediately remove Joe Biden from the White House, immediately put President Trump back in the White House, and hold a new special election for the presidency.“
January 6 Was The Final Election Contest Verdict
Afterward, Brooks reiterated that he advised the former President to move on as well. “As a lawyer, I’ve repeatedly advised President Trump that January 6 was the final election contest verdict,” he advised.
“Neither the US Constitution nor the US Code permits what President Trump asks. Period,” he added.
“I’ve told President Trump the truth knowing full well that it might cause President Trump to rescind his endorsement. “But I took a sworn oath to defend and protect the US Constitution. I honor my oath. That is the way I am. I break my sworn oath for no man,” Brooks added.
Brooks Later Clarifies His Statement
Later on, Brooks clarified that Trump’s proposal was for him alone and not Congress. “My statement doesn’t say Congress.
We never got that far because I explained to the president that what he asked was legally impossible,” he explained. That move “violates the United States Constitution and I’m not going to do it.
Despite Brook’s revelation, the Alabama congressman previously supported Trump’s claims that he won the 2020 election.
In fact, Brooks was one of the GOP lawmakers who planned to challenge the election certification process last January 2021. He also gave a rousing speech supporting Trump during the day of the Capitol riots.
When asked if he has plans to talk to a Congressional committee on Trump’s suggestion, Brooks didn’t answer directly. “I don’t know that this has anything to do with what happened on January the 6th,” he said.
“Because we’re talking about, gosh, eight months later. But they’ve never asked me for anything. So that’s where we are,” he said.
