It started late Saturday when a trooper saw Osgood on the New Jersey Turnpike and tried to pull him over. That's when the chase began, however, it was not long lived. Osgood, while in the heat of pursuit shot himself. This caused him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a metal guardrail and eventually a trooper's squad car. The gunshot wound was not immediately fatal, yet it was announced that Osgood died shortly after the incident.

It wasn't until the police searched Osgood's car that they realized the gravity of his crime. What started out as a regular interstate case, turned into a car chase to the death and then a murder scene. Osgood had his 55-year old wife's, Mary Jo Osgood, body in the trunk of his car.

Cops believe that Osgood had killed his wife, in their home in Providence, then placed her in the trunk.

Apparently, one of Osgood's children had called the police early Saturday afternoon to say that her father was missing. Police officers were alerted and told to look for Osgood's 2007 Dodge Charger. That's when Osgood was seen on the New Jersey Turnpike.

The Providence Police Chief Hugh Clements said, “We felt that early on, this was going to have a very bad ending.”
