North Carolina Introduce Bill to Ban Biological Males from Women’s Sports

The General Assembly of North Carolina has introduced a measure that would effectively ban biological males from competing in women’s sports at schools.

State Reps. Mark Brody, Diane Wheatley, Jimmy Dizon, and Pat McElraft filed House Bill 358 last Sunday. The said bill aims to make sure women will not have to compete against biological men who play on women’s sports teams.

The bill used “inherent differences between men and women” as its basis. It also referenced studies that explain the obvious advantages biological males have over females.

As per the American Civil Liberties Union, 26 state lawmaking bodies have introduced 41 measures so far this year. All of these bills would ban transgender students from joining sports teams and competitions that do not align with their biological sex.

North Carolina’s version of the bill was drafted with a language similar to one in South Dakota. South Dakota by Republican Gov. Kristi Noem vetoed the said bill, however.  Noem faced criticisms from conservatives for blocking the bill even though she previously expressed support for it.
