President Trump Says Markets Are Going to Be “Just Fine” Despite Investor Worries Over Coronavirus Outbreak

President Trump recently said that markets “are going to be just fine” despite the wild trading seasons driven by investors’ worries over the coronavirus outbreak. Business Insider explained that “stock futures began to plummet Wednesday night during the president's address to the nation.”

The president’s comments came during a Thursday meeting with Leo Vardakar, the taoiseach of Ireland. According to CNBC, Ireland was not among the European countries facing the travel ban, which takes effect Friday.

Business Insider reported that stocks are “mired in a brutal stretch of selling that deepened during Trump's Oval Office address to the nation on Wednesday night. Equity futures declined as he spoke, and investors balked at his 30-day travel ban on foreign nationals traveling from Europe to the U.S.”

Due to the lack of progress on economic stimulus plans, they have also been left disappointed.

The Dow Jones industrial average is now down more than 2,000 points, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq have each fallen nearly 8%.

CNBC reported that as Trump attempts to reassure the U.S. that markets would recover from the impact of the virus, “lawmakers on Capitol Hill signaled that a partisan fight was coming over a new emergency aid package.”
