Record Breaking: Biden Admin Records 252,000 Migrant Encounters for December
The Biden Administration reported another record-breaking month for migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border. The report of about 252,000 encounters with migrants appeared in a news dump on Friday night. The size of this month's report is unprecedented in American history.
The December Southwest Land Border Encounters Report was made public by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) early Friday evening. According to the report, in December 2022, 251,487 migrants were encountered by Border Patrol agents and CBP officers.
The December numbers set another record broken by Joe Biden’s administration, also representing the tenth consecutive month of reports going over 200,000 for migrant encounters.
The Obama- and Trump-era border security officials immediately criticized the Biden administration for numbers swiftly rising.
VIa a written statement released Friday, Tom Homan, former acting ICE Director and a visiting fellow from the Heritage Foundation, said: “Joe Biden is the first president in my lifetime to intentionally un-secure the border. By way of more than 90 executive orders, he undid the successful Trump-era policies that brought illegal immigration to a 40-year low and gave us the most secure border of our lifetimes.”
“This president and his team were warned what would happen if they got rid of those policies,” he added. “They did it anyway, and you’re looking at the consequences.
Shortly after Biden took office, former CBP commissioner Mark Morgan spoke with Breitbart Texas, reporting on warnings afforded the current administration during the transition.
“Look, I know what our team said to the transition team,” Morgan stated at the time. “I know the facts and data and analysis that was provided.”
Morgan, also a Heritage Foundation visiting fellow, talked about the impact of the current admin’s changes regarding border security and immigration.
“What’s been happening at the border the last two years continues to be a catastrophic crisis, and the White House, Secretary Mayorkas, and the open-borders advocates on the left continue to lie about it,” Morgan said, adding, “Under the last Democratic president, 25,000 encounters was a borderline crisis—for the Biden administration, 10 times that number is simply business as usual.”
“Secretary Mayorkas has been in his post for two years. He has presided over all this chaos and destruction, willfully implementing every single one of his boss’ open-borders policies,” he went on to say. “Those policies have abjectly failed, yet he continues to absurdly claim the opposite, even to the point of lying under oath before Congress. No sane person could look at the border and claim we’re on the right course.”
According to the CBP Southwest Land Border Encounters Report, border agents and officers have encountered over 4.5 million immigrants along the southwest border with Mexico from Feb. 1, 2021 to Dec. 31, 2022.
