Biden Warns US Businesses Of Russian Cyberattacks
On Monday, President Joe Biden warned US businesses of heightened Russian cyberattacks. He told companies to take precautions against renewed attacks.
Russian hackers will renew efforts to take down American companies. Biden attributed the source of the information to “evolving” intelligence.

“The magnitude of Russia’s cyber capacity is fairly consequential, and it’s coming. The federal government is doing its part to get ready,” he said.
The President urged American businesses to invest “as much as you can” to guard themselves against potential data and security breaches.
With the war between Russia and Ukraine raging on, the White House showed concern that the US may be a target. The US, along with Europe, openly supports Ukraine.
Already, the West imposed economic sanctions on Russia, which can lead to retaliatory action. As a result, Biden issued a fact sheet last Monday. Titled “Act Now to Protect Against Potential Cyberattacks.”
Businesses Should Protect Themselves Against Russian Cyberattacks
“This is a critical moment to accelerate our work to improve domestic cybersecurity and bolster our national resilience,” Biden said in a statement.
He added that “Russia could conduct malicious cyber activity against the United States”. This includes Russian responses to the unprecedented economic costs imposed on Russia.
Biden said that “evolving intelligence” is showing that “the Russian government is exploring options for potential cyberattacks.”
In addition, the White House pushed US companies to use heightened security measures. This includes the use of multifactor authentication and backing up and encrypting data.
The White House also implored businesses to educate workers about tactics hackers employ to steal data.
“If you have not already done so, I urge our private sector partners to harden your cyber defenses immediately,” Biden said. They can do so by “implementing the best practices we have developed together over the last year.”
CISA Urges Organizations To Act Now
Jen Easterly is the director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. She reinforced the president's warning. She urged all organizations of all sizes to act now and protect themselves from Russian cyberattacks.
In addition, deputy national security adviser Anne Neuberger also confirmed Russian plans to increase cyberattacks. The attacks might involve targeting critical infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the US has no plans to confront Russia. However, the country will respond if Moscow conducts disruptive activities.
The President also briefed the heads of 16 major US companies about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
In addition, NBC News reported that Biden held options to carry out US cyberattacks against the Russians. The operation aimed to disrupt Russia’s ability to wage war in Ukraine.
