SAT Registration Outside North America Has Been Temporarily Suspended

The College Board temporarily suspended SAT registration for students outside North America. This is because of an extensive “bot” activity.

“We have uncovered extensive automated SAT registration (bot) activity from outside North America that's crowding out registration for all students. To ensure fairness, we're temporarily suspending registration for students outside North America. We'll continue to provide updates,” said the College Board in a tweet.

Fox Business explains that the past few months of the COVID-19 pandemic have “stymied college admissions exams as testing sites.” Many schools have been closed to limit the spread of the virus, thus canceling exams.

The Board has recently decided to cancel plans of offering at-home tests, mentioning technological challenges. There was also no way to ensure three hours of uninterrupted video quality internet access for all.

Meanwhile, around 50 colleges have dropped or made standardized testing optional for 2021.

Student Voice reported that thousands of students across the U.S. “are calling for all colleges and universities to prioritize equity in the admissions process and adopt test-optional policies for freshmen entering in the class of 2021.”
