70% of Migrants Entered Through Multiple Sectors in May

Almost 70% of the 172,011 migrants apprehended at the country’s southern border crossed into the five Border Patrol sectors based in Texas amid the crisis. In line with this, GOP Gov. Greg Abbot had announced actions in connection to law enforcement and border security at a summit in Del Rio late last week.

The five Border Patrol sectors found in Texas include Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, Del Rio, Big Bend, and El Paso. Of the 172,011 migrants that agents have apprehended, 118, 036 or almost 68.6% went into one of these five sectors in May. This is according to the report of the May Southwest Land Border Encounters by the CBP that rolled out last Wednesday. Since Oct. 1, 2020, agents have apprehended 605,133 out of 897,213.

Due to the changes that the Biden administration put in place, Abbott announced aggressive actions that would let Texas build barriers and have mass migrants arrests for those who violate state laws.

During a one-on-one interview between Abbott and Breitbart Texas prior to the summit on June 10, the governor described Biden-era policies as “the most reckless, reprehensible, and dangerous.”

He then noted that the spike in migrants coming to the border is out of control and that the current administration had only shown that it won’t do its job regarding the matter. Because of this, Abbott said, people need to “step up and do more.”

Texas to Execute Actions in Handling Border Crisis

Abbott said authorities plan on using existing powers under State of Emergency declarations in handling people trying to illegally cross the border.

The governor stated that if a migrant comes to Texas illegally, that person is subject to being arrested.

In connection to this, Abbott stated that he will expand Operation Lone Star immediately. This action saw Texas law enforcement and National Guardsmen managing to apprehend over 1,500 and referring another 35,000 to Border Patrol agents.

Abbott then said that this won’t clearly be enough to stop the influx of migrants. Therefore, he said the State will provide more resources. However, the governor said people need to understand that providing resources alone will not solve anything. He said they need to come up with new strategies, ideas, and tools to address the crisis.

One such strategy involves the “immediate” placement of physical barriers put in place by the State of Texas. It already identified several locations where migrants. The State has indicated many locations where migrants could easily pass through border sections and enter private property.

Abbott explained that they will put barriers in such locations. He said they will do so as if one interferes with a barrier, they have already done a number of state crimes.

The Texas governor said they want to become “very aggressive” in working with authorities and starting mass arrests. He said this will be in collaboration with many more counties. Also, this means they would have to arrest more and more people.
