Thugs Attack A Polling Location In CA, 1 Dead
- Police received a report of gunshots in a neighborhood in the 500 block of West 4th Street shortly after 2 p.m. The house is across Memorial Park at 320 N Orange Ave. which was being used as a polling place.
- California Highway patrol closed on and off ramps for the 210 freeway in both directions at Vernon and Azusa avenues.
AZUSA >> One person was killed and two were critically injured after a shooting broke out at a home near a polling place Tuesday afternoon.
Police officers who arrived at the scene came under fire. Officers later found the suspect dead inside the house. The man has not been identified.

Because of the shooting, two schools and three polling places were placed on lockdown.
Police received a report of gunshots in a neighborhood in the 500 block of West 4th Street shortly after 2 p.m. The house is across Memorial Park at 320 N Orange Ave. which was being used as a polling place.
Azusa Police Chief Steve Hunt said four Azusa officers and an Irwindale officer arrived at the scene and were shot at by the suspect. They got pinned down behind some vehicles, he added.

The officers returned fire. None of the officers were injured.
Hunt said there is one person lying in the doorway but didn’t know if the person is a victim or an assailant.
Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Gustavo Medina said one person died at the scene while three others were injured. A sheriff’s helicopter flew two of the injured to a trauma center, according to Medina who didn’t know the extent of their injuries.
Despite earlier reports from fire officials that a third person was taken to a hospital, police know only of two injured.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Vincent Plair said the shooting “is not involving anything to do with polling places.”
Azusa Unified School District Superintendent Linda Kaminski said Slauson Middle School at 340 W. 5th St. and Mountain View Elementary at 201 N. Vernon Avenue were placed on lockdown due to the police activity.
District officials said the students were released after 4 p.m.
Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder officials said polling places at Memorial Park at 320 N. Orange Ave, Dalton Elementary at 500 E 10th St and Mountain View Elementary at 201 North Vernon Ave. were affected. Voters were told to avoid the area and go to other polling places.
The shooting didn’t happen at the polling location, according to Oscar Olmos, an election assistant.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said the sheriff’s air rescue 5, several patrol units and the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau which is the department SWAT are assisting in the efforts to locate the suspected shooter.
Irwindale police, West Covina Police and its SWAT team are also assisting Azusa police.
