Trump Claims He Won First Presidential Debate; CPD Considers Changes to Two Remaining Debates Following Chaos
Following the first presidential debate, President Trump declared victory over former Vice President Joe Biden.
“I really enjoyed last night’s debate with Sleepy Joe … the verdict is in and they say that we, all of us, won big last night,” Trump told a crowd at Duluth International Airport on Wednesday.
Before departing for Minnesota, Trump told reporters at the White House that he “thought it was a great evening.”
“I see the ratings were very high and it was good to be there, felt very comfortable. I appreciate all the good words,” he added.
According to The Hill, the president then claimed that the former vice president does not want to push through with the next two debates even though the Biden campaign said on Tuesday that the Democratic presidential candidate would continue.
“I hear he doesn’t want to go forward, but that’s up to him. I mean, I would like to,” Trump said to reporters. “By every measure, we won the debate easily last night. I think he was very weak, he looked weak, he was whining. Yeah, we won the debate by almost every poll that I saw.”
According to Trump, he viewed six polls showing that he won the presidential debate in Cleveland, but he did not name the surveys.
“Public polls released following the debate indicated that voters believe Biden performed best,” as reported by The Hill.
A Chaotic Presidential Debate
The debate was undoubtedly chaotic as both Trump and Biden threw insults at each other.
The Hill reported that the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) said on Wednesday that it is “considering changes to the two remaining presidential debates to maintain order.”
“Last night’s debate made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues,” the commission said in a statement. “The CPD will be carefully considering the changes that it will adopt and will announce those measures shortly.”
