Trump Establishes White House Faith Office, Puts His Spiritual Adviser Paula White in Charge

President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing the White House Faith Office, marking a renewed focus on conservative religious values in his second term. The office will be led by televangelist Paula White, Trump’s long-time spiritual advisor. The Faith Office will focus on defending religious liberty, combating anti-religious bias, and empowering faith-based organizations.

The Reason Why President Trump Created the Faith Office

Trump announced the Faith Office at the National Prayer Breakfast, stating it would help “bring God back into our lives.” The office will be part of the Domestic Policy Council and tasked with reducing barriers to the free exercise of religion, advising federal agencies on faith-related issues, and coordinating charitable efforts.

The creation of the Faith Office follows Trump’s increasingly religious rhetoric, particularly after surviving an assassination attempt during his campaign. Trump credited his survival to divine intervention and claimed it deepened his faith. This move also aligns with his broader strategy to strengthen ties with evangelical voters, a key constituency that supported him in the 2024 election.

Who Is Paula White?

Paula White, 58, is a Florida-based televangelist known for her support of the Prosperity Gospel, the belief that faith can lead to material wealth and personal success. She first caught Trump’s attention in 2002 when he called her after watching her TV show, Paula White Today. Since then, she has served as his personal spiritual advisor, and even delivered the invocation at his 2017 inauguration. White advised President Trump throughout his first term.

White’s influence extends beyond Trump. She claims to have ministered in nearly 200 countries, advocating for religious freedom and humanitarian rights. Despite her global reach, White remains a polarizing figure within the Christian community due to her theological views and personal life, including multiple marriages and public controversies.

MAGA Supporters Push Back Against White’s Appointment

While Trump’s evangelical base largely supports his religious initiatives, Paula White’s appointment sparked backlash among some MAGA adherents. Critics argue that her promotion of the Prosperity Gospel and Word of Faith movement contradicts traditional Christian values.

Christian podcast host John Mason labeled White a “heretic” and “false teacher” who exploits the Gospel for personal gain. Conservative commentator Jon Root criticized her appointment, stating, “This is the worst decision President Trump has made since taking office… Paula White is a heretic who pedals the Prosperity Gospel. Plus, women should not be pastors according to the Bible.”

Some MAGA supporters also question White’s personal life, citing her multiple marriages and alleged scandals as evidence of her unsuitability for the role. Scott Ross, a Texas-based Orthodox Christian, called the appointment “an abomination,” claiming that White’s teachings are “utterly opposed to authentic Christianity.”

What the Faith Office Means for American Politics and Religion

The establishment of the Faith Office reflects Trump’s broader effort to intertwine religion with government policy. The office will coordinate with Attorney General Pam Bondi’s task force to “eradicate anti-Christian bias” and advise on policies benefiting faith-based organizations.

Supporters argue that the Faith Office will protect religious freedoms and give faith-based entities a stronger voice in policy-making. Critics, however, worry it blurs the line between church and state, promoting specific religious ideologies within the government.

Regardless of the controversy surrounding Paula White’s appointment, the Faith Office signals a shift toward more overt religious influence in U.S. politics. As Trump continues to court evangelical voters, the impact of this new office will be closely watched.
