While Biden Ignores The Migrant Crisis, Abbott Begins Texas Border Wall Project
On Wednesday, Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas announced that the state will build its own border wall and accused that President Joe Biden’s administration abandoned its responsibility to protect the southern border.
At a press conference, the governor said that Texas will build a border wall to help secure the state’s border.
Abbot also revealed a $250 million down payment that starts the project. This allows Texas to hire a project manager and get the said project underway. He added that the wall would stand on a mix of state land and donations of private land. Donations would also partly fund the project.
According to The Dallas Morning News, the downpayment will come from Texas’ Department of Criminal Justice.
During the Trump administration, a 450-mile border wall was built. The construction of the said wall was stopped by the current administration soon after Biden became president. Those who oppose the wall construction said it was cruel and ineffective while those who support it said it was vital.
Those who criticize the current administration, including Abbot, have accused the administration of encouraging the surge in illegal immigrants instead of stopping it. It does so by creating “open-border” policies and rolling back Trump’s immigration policies like the MPP.

The Texas governor also stated that the state has witnessed “carnage” from the people getting into the country. For example, he stated that, in the first four months of 2021, the state’s Department of Public Safety recorded an 800% increase in the amount of fentanyl confiscated at the border.
He said dangerous people threaten homes and neighborhoods on the daily basis.
The announcement of the border wall comes as the border crisis continues. In May alone, the CBP encountered 180,000 migrants at the border. While this continues to happen, the Biden administration just puts the blame of the surge in “root causes” such as climate change, poverty, and violence, instead of recognizing the role of their more relaxed restrictions.
On Wednesday, the Texas governor also said that the current administration “has abandoned its responsibility” to enforce federal and immigration law at the border.
Therefore, Abbott said, in its absence, Texas will step up “to get the job done.”
