Be Ready: Press Secretary Tells Americans ‘Expect Executive Orders on Guns’

During a daily press briefing, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed that people should expect Biden to issue executive orders tackling guns and gun control.

A journalist asked Psaki the question of whether Americans should still expect the president to release executive orders on guns. To this, she replied “yes.”

While the press secretary confirmed it, Psaki mentioned that she couldn’t say an exact time frame. She said a thorough review process still needs to happen first. Psaki also pointed out the efforts Biden did during his time as vice president in tackling gun control. She described it as “one of the levers” they can use.

This renewed push for gun control by Democrats comes in the wake of two tragic shootings that happened in the past two weeks. On Monday, 10 people were killed at a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado. Last week, a gunman shot eight people dead at three Atlanta-area spas.

On Tuesday, the president urged the Senate to pass gun control measures. However, this may seem unlikely. Currently, the Upper Chamber of Congress is evenly divided, but bills need 60 votes to be approved.

Just this month alone, 35 Democrats in the Senate have proposed legislation that would ban “assault weapons” such as AR-15-style rifles. Previously, legislation that expands mandatory background checks for private gun transfers also failed to pass Congress.
